Course Contents
The course is structured in two main parts. The first part presents an overview of the different phases of the Project Management approach, and in particular of the Project Cycle Management. The second part offers a cognitive-methodological reference that is necessary to set up, to program and to plan the local tourism development through tourist projects and initiatives of territorial marketing.

Learning Outcomes
The course aims at providing an overview of the necessary methodologies, tools and practices to design, plan and manage initiatives and suitable projects for the development and promotion of touristic destinations, from both public and private point of view, using also examples and case studies.
In particular, the attention will be focused on the issues of project management, of project cycle (project cycle management) and its cognitive support system. The ultimate goal is to enable students to manage the entire life cycle of a tourism development project in order to operate effectively in companies or public entities involved in the promotion of the territory and of the tourism.

Teaching Methods
The teaching will be conducted through lectures, held by the teacher or by experts, and through exercises and group discussions.

Assessment Methods
The students are provided with two options: presentation of a final report related to the contents of the course or written test on the contents of the texts mentioned above.
In the first case, they have to create a ppt presentation to be discussed both with teachers and class.
In the second case, there's a written text (6 questions, 3 for each part).

The course is structured as follows:

 types of products and touristic destinations
 types of tourism projects
 policies, projects and programs
 context analysis (demand management, destination management, site management)
 actors and stakeholders
 the organizational design and creative resources
 techniques and methods of participation and decision support
 techniques and types of evaluation: of territorial interrelations, of added values, of costs and revenues
 territorial and sectorial planning at European, national and regional scales
 marketing plans
 project funding (fund raising and financial sources)
 tools for promotion and marketing of the products and of the touristic destinations
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: knowledge of basic theoretical and methodological concepts of tourism planning and project management. Ability to understand and contextualize the relationship between geographical dimension and tourism. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: ability to identify and develop the territorial components for project of creation/enhancement of tourism products/destinations. Autonomy of evaluation: ability to analyze territorial contexts and set up projects. Communication skills: ability to communicate and present a tourism project of territorial/product development. Learning / studying skills: ability to find and access to additional bibliographic and data sources. Ability to combine theoretical and methodological concepts with the direct observation of tourist and territorial data.
