FRENCH LANGUAGE B EXERCISES III

For non-attending students of the general translation course (by Mme Vitroni) : Françoise Bidaud, "Traduire le français aujourd'hui," Utet Univ. 2014, ISBN 9788860084439.

The objectives are those recommended at C1 Level in the Common European Framework.

For students registered in the bachelor's degree in Modern Foreign Languages: passing the integrated exam of French Language II (language proficiency level obtained: B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Lectures, with the support of audiovisual documents and the support of the DIR service. Active learner role, elaboration of tasks and translations.

The DIR service will provide detailed programs, instructions for the obligatory work, examples of written tests, and exercise sheets.

Written and oral separate. The written test comprises two independent parts, carried out on two different sittings: a translation from Italian into French and an essay.
Procedure for the written test
1- Test duration: 3 hours for each test.
2- Structure of the test and assessment methods: a- Translation: grade out of 30; essay: grade out of 30; Final assessment expressed in thirtieths. Minimum mark in the two individual tests for admission to the oral test: 18/30. II- Arrangements for the oral test: 1- Duration of the test: approximately 15 minutes. 2- Structure of the test and method of assessment: presentation and discussion of the compulsory activity undertaken by the student (analysis and synthesis of an audiovisual report) monitored by the teacher during the second semester. Final assessment in thirtieths as follows: overall mark for the written test + a maximum of 3 points awarded for the oral test. Students will be given the opportunity to take an exemption from the oral test, subject to the presentation of the compulsory work during the last lesson of the course, i.e. before the summer term.

The course prepares for the following techniques :
1. Translation from Italian into French of prose texts (48 hours per year, course taught by Mme L. Vitroni). During the first semester, group A and group B will merge into the same course, dedicated to the translation from Italian into French of general texts (24 hours). During the second semester, the division of the groups will take place: group A will be dedicated to the translation of literary, journalistic and non-fiction texts, while group B will be dedicated to the translation of texts relating to the field of tourism (24 hours). The choice of course is up to the student before the start of the second semester, depending on the focus he or she wishes to give to his or her language training. Each group corresponds to a different examination paper.
2. Introduction to the drafting of a written composition (24 hours per year, contracted course): this skill will be developed in the second semester.
3. Analysis / oral summary of audiovisual reports, with a view to the oral test: this skill, which will be developed in the first semester (24 hours, course taught by Mme L. Vitroni), will be handled autonomously and individually by the course participants in the second semester.
The calendar of teaching activities will be published on the course DIR at the beginning of the academic year.

Achievement of level C1 defined by the European Reference Framework in the various skills, adapted to the needs of the course.
