Introduction to Greek culture and its Greek, Arabic, Latin tradition.

The classical tradition will be seen as the origin of Western thought, with particular reference
- to the early thought and poetry, see SNELL's work in the bibliography

- to the Greek philosophical-scientific tradition, and especially to the work of Aristotle. Aristotle in his turn will be seen as a synthesis of early Greek thinkers.

An introduction is also provided to ancient Greek alphabet and phonetics, and to the timeline of ancient philosophy, especially for the sake of those students who never studied History of Ancient Philosophy before.

DIR materials

Awareness of the common cultural roots of Greek, Middle Eastern and European culture.

Ability to frame cultural phenomena in their historical roots and in their social and geographical context.

Basic knowledge of the history of philosophy, with special reference to Greek thought and to Aristotle's corpus (see shared materials on DIR)

Seminars and interactive reading of textbooks and sources.

Participation and individual seminars (50 % of the final score)

Final discussion (50% of the final score)

Candidates are supposed to be able to lead a seminar or a debate on the subjects and themes of the course.
The student will have to acquire the ability to apply methods to cases of studying data with clarity and precision.

He will be able to express herself with competence, with adequate lexicon.
