Starting from a “metaphorical” representation of organizations, the course covers issues of organizational change management, environmental complexity management, and the use of technology and its organizational connotations to support organizational sustainability.

The course has a twofold objective. The first, theoretical in nature, is to present organizational theories supporting sustainability. The second, more practical in nature, is to open a discussion about the role of organizations in implementing sustainable processes from economic, social and environmental perspectives.

Knowledge and understanding:
The course will provide students with in-depth knowledge of the main organisational theories applied to sustainability, with a particular focus on change management, environmental complexity, and the role of technology. Students will develop a critical understanding of organisational adaptation and transformation dynamics in the context of ecological transition.

Applying knowledge and understanding:
Students will be able to apply the theoretical concepts learned to the analysis of real cases, developing skills in evaluating organisational strategies for sustainability. Through case study discussions, they will identify challenges and opportunities related to organisational sustainability and propose innovative solutions.

Making judgements:
The course will foster students' critical thinking in analysing organisational choices related to sustainability. They will be encouraged to develop a conscious and reflective approach to the relationship between organisations, technology, and sustainability, assessing the economic, social, and environmental impacts of the strategies adopted.

Communication skills:
Students will develop effective communication skills on organisational sustainability issues through active participation in discussions, case study analysis, and critical engagement with peers. They will be able to present complex arguments clearly and coherently.

Learning skills:
The course will provide methodological and conceptual tools to enable students to deepen their understanding of the topics covered independently and stay updated on theoretical and practical developments in organisational sustainability. They will be encouraged to adopt an interdisciplinary approach and develop a mindset geared towards continuous learning.
