Course Contents
The course provides basic knowledge about the organization of the cell and genetic material in eukaryotes and prokaryotes. The course also introduces concepts of population genetics and quantitative genetics

Learning Outcomes
The course aims to provide a basic understanding of genetic material and its transmission. It will cover the main characteristics of qualitative and quantitative traits. The course will describe the evolutionary forces that act on the genetic variability of populations.
Additionally, the course briefly addresses the main plant responses to stress conditions and introduces modern techniques for plant organism transformation.

Assessment Methods
Written exam. The test consists of 10 multiple-choice questions, each awarding 1 point for a correct answer and 0 points for an incorrect answer.
Detailed Syllabus
The prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell, plant and animal. The cell cycle. Sexual and asexual reproduction. Structure and functions of nucleic acids. DNA replication. Transcription and translation. Proteins. Gene and chromosomal mutations. Qualitative traits. Quantitative traits. Population genetics. Plant adaptation to stress. Introduction to genetic engineering.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of the basics of heredity and the main evolutionary mechanisms acting on populations. Understanding of the complex relationships between genotype and phenotype.
