The course in question aims to provide students with the necessary tools to understand and explore the characteristics, scope of application, methodologies, processes, and issues related to the design, development, production, and use of biotechnological drugs and vaccines. In particular, it will also focus on next-generation approaches used in this field. Additionally, the course will address the processes involved in the discovery, optimization, and validation of peptides and peptidomimetics, considering their biological activity. This will enable students to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the strategies and techniques used for the development of molecules with potential therapeutic or biotechnological applications. Therefore, the course aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the theoretical and practical aspects related to these two research areas, integrating basic knowledge with insights into emerging trends and technologies. Students will be able to acquire specific skills to tackle the challenges and opportunities that characterize these sectors, both in scientific research and in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.

Learning Outcomes
The following course provides a comprehensive overview of the research and development process for biotechnological drugs and vaccines, outlining the different phases from conception to approval. Additionally, it presents the main objectives of the Pharmaceutical Research and Development course for peptide and peptidomimetic drugs, aiming to provide students with a fundamental understanding of the pharmaceutical chemistry of these molecules and the strategies for their design. By the end of the course, students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to develop peptidomimetics, understanding the challenges involved in their development.

Assessment Methods
The exam will consist of two tests relating to the two course modules (see the description of the individual modules.). The final grade will be calculated as a non-weighted average according to the number of credits of each course

Expected Learning Outcomes
This course will provide students with in-depth knowledge of the research and development process of biotechnological drugs already in use. Students will learn to apply the acquired knowledge to understand and propose new targets and the subsequent design and study of innovative drugs. Additionally, the course will cover fundamental aspects regarding the pharmaceutical chemistry of peptides and peptide mimetics. Students will be able to present, discuss, and comprehend general strategies for the design of peptides and peptide mimetics. By the end of the course, students will have acquired a solid knowledge base of biotechnological drugs and pharmaceutical chemistry of peptides, making them ready to tackle challenges in the field of drug research and development.
