EUGENIO MONTALE'S OSSI DI SEPPIA + HISTORY OF THE ITALIAN LEXICOGRAPHY. The Integrated Course (12 cfu) consists of the parts: Italian Literature II (6 credits; Prof. Gibellini) and Italian Linguistics I (6 credits; Prof. Maconi). Among the different topics that can be selected by the teachers in the different academic years, the focus remains on authors, works, and methodological issues relevant to the history of the Italian literature and linguistics.

ITALIAN LITERATURE. 1. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THIS IS THE EDITION (ISBN 978880478475), NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH OTHER EDITIONS, EVEN FROM THE SAME PUBLISHER, WHICH DO NOT HAVE THE COMMENTARY. VERIFY THAT THIS IS THE EDITION WITH COMMENTARY BY CATALDI AND D'AMELY. 2. For the monographic part: the teacher will prepare a file with the texts that will be commented on in class, and which will be deposited in the copy shop (Lisa copy shop in Vercelli, via Galileo Ferraris 76) before the start of the lessons. ITALIAN LITERATURE. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: knowledge of Eugenio Montale's life, poetics and works (basic level); understanding of the texts of twentieth-century Italian literature (with particular attention to Montale's Ossi di seppia), through a correct paraphrase (basic level) and attention to their linguistic and stylistic dimension (advanced level); ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: ability to analyze texts by connecting ideological and literary elements (basic level); ability to analyze texts from an intertextual perspective and discuss interpretative problems (advanced level); EXPRESSION OF JUDGMENTS: ability to express motivated judgments on texts and their interpretations, critically discussing their reasons and limits, with particular attention to the historical perspective (advanced level); COMMUNICATION SKILLS: ability to present the concepts and data learned in an orderly and clear manner, using appropriate language (basic level); ability to present the results of the study with argumentative effectiveness and critical autonomy, avoiding mnemonic repetition (advanced level). ITALIAN LINGUISTICS. 1. Good knowledge on the history of the Italian Lexicography. 2. Being able to use different types of dictionaries and lexicographic electronic tools. 3. Being able to use Internet resources for Italian linguistics and literature. 4. Being able to teach the Italian language through the most important dictionaries.

Historical-literary, linguistic-stylistic and basic metrics knowledge. ITALIAN LINGUISTICS. Students who have not acquired 12 credits in History of the Italian language (L-FIL-LET/12) in their previous career are advised to study as well C. MARAZZINI, La lingua italiana. Frontal lessons with discussion; reading and commenting on the texts in the classroom, with questions and discussion; online teaching (DIR); lessons in the library, in the computer room.

DIR. The teachers will make teaching materials available to students through the university IT service (DIR), to which students are invited to register before the start of lessons. Non-attending students are asked to contact the teacher of Italian Literature (cecilia.gibellini@uniupo.it) to get some general indications for the preparation of the exam and to arrange some supplementary readings. The investigation of the possible didactic use of dictionaries and electronic tools will be part of the program of the lessons, obviously focused on the teaching of the Italian language and the Italian Literature. ITALIAN LITERATURE: WRITTEN EXAM + ITALIAN LINGUISTICS: ORAL EXAM. The final grade will be the average of the two partial grades (Italian Literature and Italian Linguistics). The written exam of ITALIAN LITERATURE will focus on the following points: 1. Verification of the ability to interpret texts (with particular attention to the course topic), and together with the communication skills and the ability to express judgments: a question on an issue, theme or problem among those addressed in the study of Ossi di seppia, in order to verify both the knowledge and the degree of in-depth analysis and critical reworking of the texts – 50% of the weight on the exam grade; 2. Verification of the ability to examine and interpret texts, to express judgments, and to apply oneself to the analysis of literary texts: a question consisting of the analysis and commentary of a text of Ossi di seppia, or of one among those anthologized in the file prepared by the teacher – 50% of the weight on the exam grade. To pass the exam, it will be necessary to answer each of the questions at least sufficiently. The evaluation is based on the level of knowledge and understanding of the texts in the program, on the ability to apply the knowledge to the text or to the proposed interpretative problem, and on the level of expressive and communicative ability. ITALIAN LINGUISTICS. Oral exam on the books listed in the bibliography. The exam lasts 20 minutes. Students will be asked to answer four or five questions structured as follows in order to value the achievement of the above objectives: - Three or four questions on the history of the Italian lexicography and on the dictionaries listed in the program of the exam. Value 60% (= basic level). - One question on electronic dictionaries, on Internet tools for lexicographers, on new lexicographic projects of the Accademia della Crusca, on didactic strategies for teaching ancient and modern Italian trough dictionaries. Value 20% (= advanced level). - The oral presentation and the dialectical conversation with the teacher will be assessed. Value 20%.

ITALIAN LITERATURE. In order to achieve the knowledge and skills corresponding to the sufficiency level, the student is asked to demonstrate: (KNOWLEDGE) to know Eugenio Montale's biography and works; (SKILLS) knowing how to analyze and interpret XXth century literary texts (and especially Montale's Ossi di seppia), linking ideological elements to more strictly literary ones; (TRANSVERSAL SKILLS) knowing how to present in a clear and effective way knowledge, information and opinions relating to the texts and problems dealt with, using appropriate language and terminology. For the achievement of an advanced level, the student must demonstrate: an organic vision of the topics addressed in class, combined with articulated skills of analysis and synthesis; the ability to critically and independently elaborate the topics covered, even beyond the indications provided in class and in the exam program; excellent expressive mastery. ITALIAN LINGUISTICS. In order to achieve a basic level, student is asked to demonstrate good knowledge on the history of the Italian Lexicography. In order to achieve an advanced level, student is also asked to use linguistic terminology in a coherent and appropriate way and to use appropriately tools for educational purposes: electronic dictionaries, online databases.
