Acquire the theoretical reference models that explain the different cognitive functions treated by general psychology. Allow the understanding of cognitive functioning, through reference models. Make the student competent in the argumentation of reference models and theories, through the adoption of scientific notions and terminology.

No specific scientific or psychological knowledge is required beyond that provided by any high school.

Student assessment will consist of a single exam at the end of the course. The exam will be written and include both closed-ended and open-ended questions.

Introduction to psychology and research methods: the historical foundations of the emergence of psychology as a scientific discipline will be presented, along with the main approaches to the study of psychology. Research methodologies specific to experimental psychology and cognitive neuroscience will also be introduced.- Verbal and non-verbal communication (with practical exercises).- Helping relationships: intervention strategies, methods, and styles.- Practitioner burnout: personal experiences and processing.- Biopsychosocial approach.- Emotions.- Empathy/active listening.- Overview of: Attention (presentation of key theoretical models and mechanisms involved in selecting environmental information for subsequent processing); Memory (analysis of key theoretical models—memory systems—and the mechanisms of encoding, storage, and retrieval that allow us to remember experiences and recall them to guide our behavior); Language (analysis of key theoretical models and the functions of language that enable communication and knowledge sharing).- Aspects of mindfulness/virtual reality.

Knowledge and understanding: Know the main models of cognitive functioning, understand the functioning of the cognitive structures addressed.Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: Having acquired the theoretical reference models that explain the various areas covered.
