READING MATERIAL FOR THE ORAL PART
For the oral, students will read in the original language the following volume: Almudena Grandes, El corazón helado, Tusquets, 2007.
Students must bring the book they have read (including in digital format) to the exam; it must be free of any marks or notes

The course aims to deepen skills in Spanish linguistics and to refine the use of the Spanish language for professional and academic purposes, particularly in the linguistic-literary field (LM 37). From the basic level of simple knowledge and application of specific terminology, analytical tools and notions acquired in class, in the analysis of texts of different natures; up to the fully conscious knowledge and application of the methods and tools offered, on different text types. To acquire advanced language proficiency (level C1.2, adapted to university requirement).

An adequate knowledge of the Spanish Language is required (higher level)

Lectures, seminar lectures with analysis of examples; the course also includes the preparation of example materials on DIR
Language exercises and workshops, individual study. The course is based on the material contained in the texts listed in the bibliography and extra material distributed in class or uploaded onto the DIR platform. Other activities will be carried out in class to reinforce and consolidate language skills in order to achieve the course objectives. Students will be constantly invited to work on error, as a source of enrichment in language learning, and on language self-awareness. There will be activities with discussion of errors, presentation of exemplary cases.

Every year, a Vademécum is published on all the Dir pages of Spanish Language and Linguistics, providing detailed information on exams, appeals, DSA and compensatory measures, Erasmus, etc. It is compulsory reading for all students.

The exam closely integrates the two sub-modules covered by the lecturer: the mark is the average of the two parts (in any case, a minimum of 18/30 in both).
LINGUISTICS Written exam (2h 30). It consists of: 1) two theoretical questions designed to assess the student’s ability to link data and concepts from translation studies; 2) a text to be translated and critically analysed on the basis of the linguistic, stylistic and other phenomena involved (or a text to be retranslated following a critical study of an Italian translation). Homework assignments and class discussion with self-assessment, based on materials provided by the lecturer.
An assessment will be graded as follows: - excellent: demonstrating a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the topics covered in the course; well-developed analytical and summarising skills; excellent command of specialist vocabulary and linguistic concepts; the ability to develop theoretical arguments (with relevant examples); - satisfactory: demonstrating knowledge of the subject matter that is at times merely rote; appropriate and correct language; the ability to analyse and summarise; good use of examples in relation to a theoretical exposition, taking into account the various aspects of the subject; -satisfactory: demonstrating a basic knowledge of the syllabus (concepts and methodology), but with an awareness of the methodology and the information acquired; basic and correct use of terminology; presentation of appropriate examples within the context of the discussion; -unsatisfactory: exhibiting at least one of the following characteristics: significant gaps in knowledge and incorrect understanding of concepts or methodology; inappropriate language/grammatically and communicatively incorrect use of Spanish; the mere listing of concepts or definitions, lacking the required conceptual links; lack of focus on the topic under examination and a scarcity, absence or inappropriate use of examples.
LECTORATE Written part (same day): 1) essay in the target language (1h 45) and 2) Italian-to-Spanish translation (1h 45) of one or two short texts (approx. 2,200 characters, including spaces), to assess advanced-level comprehension and expression skills. To pass the written exam, candidates must achieve at least 18/30 in both parts – if only one part is passed, the mark obtained will be valid for 12 months from the date of the exam, and candidates will only need to retake the part they failed. After 12 months, candidates must retake the entire written exam.
Oral: an interview designed to assess comprehension and expression skills in the language, in accordance with the pre-determined level, including on the basis of set reading material. You must bring the book with you to the exam (free of any marks or annotations).
Minimum mark: 18/30 in both the written and oral components: the final mark is the average of the two parts.
A written test will be considered satisfactory if it demonstrates a rich vocabulary, morphosyntactic variety and precision, and grammatical and communicative accuracy, in accordance with the specified level. An oral examination will be considered satisfactory if the candidate demonstrates the ability to conduct a rich and fluent conversation on diverse and in-depth topics (including those based on the readings/viewings), and displays, in addition to a command of grammar, a command of various expressive aspects of the language (non-standard registers/varieties, style, pragmatic aspects), in accordance with the specified level.
Exam that display a limited and restricted use of lexical and morphosyntactic resources, and which do not demonstrate the grammatical and communicative proficiency corresponding to the expected level, will be considered inadequate.
In-class and homework assessments. In class: finding an authentic text translated into Spanish, critically reviewing the translation, analysing and classifying the errors found, and rewriting the text in Spanish

The course combines the study (from a linguistic perspective) of the transmission of Hispanic texts and the problem of their philological reconstruction with the refinement of instrumental language skills (language registers and non-standard varieties, idiomatic expressions and collocations, modismos and refranes), with particular attention to composition in Spanish and translation.
