Health system: functions and structure; basic concepts on health status and health determinants; communicable and non-communicable diseases; environmental impacts on health; prevention: models and programmes; disasters and emergencies; floods; local case studies.

- Understand the healthcare system, the determinants of health, and the implications of environmental risks for health.

Assessment Methods
The examination, held in a computer room, consists of a quiz comprising 26 multiple-choice questions, with only one correct option, and one open-ended question worth 5 points. The total duration of the examination is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The slides used during the lectures and any readings suggested in class constitute the examination material. The examination is aimed at assessing the ability to apply the knowledge acquired during the course.
The assessment is expressed out of thirty, and the examination is considered passed with a minimum score of 18/30.

Health system: functions and structures; Primary care and community medicine; Health status and health determinants; Health determinants: conceptual models and health inequalities; Communicable and non-communicable diseases; Environmental health risks; Prevention; Disasters, emergencies and health; Floods; Local case studies (eg: Eternit in Casale Monferrato).

Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

- Describe the healthcare system, the population’s health status, and the principal determinants of health;

- Explain the implications of environmental risks on health;

- Illustrate the impact of disasters, and health emergencies on public health.


Applied knowledge and understanding:

- Interact effectively with healthcare professionals within multidisciplinary projects;

- Critically analyse the complexity of the relationships between environment, sustainability and health.
