Course Contents
The course aims at giving to the students a global approach to sustainable development, ecology and European/Global environmental law. Lectures will be held with a practical approach, but each training module will be preceded by a general introduction to methods and the theoretical approach to the specific issue. With specific regard to economy the module provides students with basic skills on main statistical tools that can be adopted to model economic phenomenon, make forecasts, test hypothesis. The goal of the module is to introduce students to theoretical and practical aspects (also using STATA) on basic econometric techniques for data analysis. The skills fostered can be used to understand, critically evaluate and autonomously carry out sound empirical research. The statistical techniques proposed are applied to case studies concerning various dimensions of sustainable development (environmental, economic, social). On the side of Eu Environmental Law The course aims at giving to the students a comprehensive overview of E.U. environmental law and its relationship with the national legal orders (in particular: the Italian one). Lesson will have a "practical approach", but this part of the course will be preceded by a general introduction to E.U. Law, its sources and the relationship between E.U. Law and national law, in order to allow students to better understand the environmental issues. with regard to ecology, a specific focus will be dedicated to the main taxonomic groups and their relationship with the environment.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students are supposed to reach a full awareness of the following topics: the economic, sociological and juridical dimension of sustainable development; in particular, with regard to the juridical elements of the course students are supposed to know and understand the international sources of environmental law; le EU competences in this field and those left to the Member States; the national sources of sustainability and environmental protection; the implementation of EU Green Deal and the national PNRR plan. With regard to economy, students will be able to recognize appropriate techniques to run basic econometric models, particularly linear regression. They will learn tools to model the relation between variables, make forecasts, perform hypothesis tests. With regard to ecology, students will develop the ability to interpret in a mechanistic manner the basic phenomena related to plant life.

In addition, solely for the purpose of recording the overall grade (calculated as the average of the grades obtained in the three modules), students must also register for the overall exam session. If a student fails to register for the overall exam, the final grade CANNOT be officially recorded and, consequently, will NOT appear in the student’s academic transcript.

Economy: An introduction to econometrics Little handbook of probability The simple linear regression Interval estimation and hypothesis testing Forecasting and data adaptation. Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students are supposed to have acquired the following skills: EU Environmental law: awareness of the European integration process in its historical, political, economic and juridical premises; knowledge of the EU institutional framework and of the sources of the European Union law; knowledge of the juridical relationship between the two legal orders and of the judicial proceedings in the ambit of the ECJ jurisdiction; knowledge of the environmental EU law.
Students must also demonstrate that they have acquired a good competence in terms of analysis of cases, texts or EU rules, capability to identify the fundamental elements of a specific topic (synthesis), find solutions to the most common issues in the ambit of the EU environmental law and of its relationship with national legal orders/national rules. Economy: theoretical and technical skills (statistical sotware, STATA) to conduct sound empirical research. Participants will learn how to model economic problems, collect information on available database, choose and run statistical models.
The application of the knowledge to real data and going through scientific literature will help students to grasp how the use of data can allow to produce knowledge (for example concerning the magnitude of the relation between variables, make forecasts or test hypotheses). The contents of the module are applied to the multiple facets of "sustainable development" (environmental, economic, social) providing a multi-trans-disciplinary vision of the application of the concepts learned. 6) To be able to integrate the knowledge acquired through the theoretical lessons with the ability developed individually to understand and analyse biochemical, physiological and morphogenetic processes of plant organisms and their regulation. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING To be able to associate the fundamentals of plant physiology to the growth and production models of crop plants, and the relationships cause-effect that determine what happens in practice. COMMUNICATION SKILLS To be able to elaborate clearly and rigorously and to summarize the contents of the discipline in a concise manner, using appropriate terms during the examination. AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT To be able of critical analysis of the elements related to what acquired during the lessons. LEARNING ABILITY To be able to describe in an exhaustive manner scientific issues related to plant physiology. This ability will be developed by autonomously deepening the topics covered in class, by reading additional texts and scientific articles.
